Former Ranch Style Beans plant near downtown Fort Worth leased to sports equipment maker

August 23, 2013
Dollamur, a maker of sports surfaces and mats, has moved from the Village Creek area in southeast Fort Worth to the former Ranch Style Beans plant near downtown.

Dollamur, founded in 1996, leased 131,095 square feet at the facility, 1743 El Paso St., from Conti Warehouses, said Ryan Wood, a Conti vice president. Conti Warehouses is a Fort Worth-based commercial real estate firm that bought the landmark property in March 2012 from Allens Canning Co.

Dollamur CEO Gary MacDowell said the move allowed the company to consolidate three locations under one roof, completed at the end of May. The company has 80 employees working there, he said.

Dollamur makes competition and practice mats for wrestling, gymnastics, cheerleading, martial arts, and health and fitness. Its products are sold worldwide.

The company also has a plant in China to serve markets in China, Japan and South Korea, MacDowell said. That facility has 18 employees.

The interior was remodeled before the company moved, MacDowell said. By mid-2014, the company expects to install a sign on the exterior where the iconic Ranch Style sign once was, he said.

Allens Canning bought the property from ConAgra in May 2010 but closed the plant at the end of 2011. ConAgra idled its operations there in early 2010 and moved production of Ranch Style Beans to other states.

The plant opened in 1913 as Great Western Foods. ConAgra acquired Ranch Style Beans in 2000.

Conti Warehouses owns more than 2 million square feet of commercial and industrial space in Fort Worth.
